In this fast-paced world, every single person is struggling to maintain a balance between work and a healthy lifestyle but imagine about those people who are home-bound and are dependent due to various reasons, who thinks about their health and wellbeing? Meals On Wheels is one such non-profit Organization that has been started with the hope of providing healthy nutritious cooked meals for senior citizens who are home bound with a very minimal cost depending on their financial tendency compared to other Pricey Services. Meals on Wheels serves senior citizens but not restricted to only old people, their services are extended to anyone who are unable to make meals that suffer from any physical or mental health issues. One can apply through an application process by checking their eligibility requirements. They can also select from the available diets and pricing options and depending on the delivery locations. There is flexibility for the one choosing the options and where and when to receive their meals.

Initially first started in 1971, Meals on Wheels was actually started as a Lenten Project by State College Ministerium which was led by Rev. Canon James B. Trost of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and The Rev. Peter Mackey of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ and this vision was thus supported by the residents of State College, Pennsylvania serving 28 people on their first order. Currently they are serving around 160-170 people on different shifts. Meals On Wheels are mainly based from the Kitchen of Grace Lutheran Church In State College. Their Mission is to provide healthy, nutritious meals to any senior, homebound individuals to maintain a healthy living without moving from the comfort of their homes. They encourage taking in more people and being able to extend their service to as many as possible in need.

Irrespective of their age, they believe that everyone needs the same amount of care and a healthy meal is important and definitely makes a difference in their health and well-being. It is so beautiful to see that how many come together and work to make a difference in another person’s life. People who are interested in their mission can definitely help the organization with Donations or offer to volunteer while helping prepare food, delivering and other tasks. Along with the members, they provide an opportunity for everyone from the community to provide aid a hand in making a difference.

They sometimes collaborate with Service Organizations and clubs from the Pennsylvania State University to host events or provide volunteering opportunities for students to work and take a part in this beautiful mission. By spreading the word and creating awareness it definitely helps in extending their services to a larger number of people and we can do so by spreading the word about their goodness.
