Udayan Care

Supporting children who are slow learners from one of our Udayan homes

Description:
Udayan Care has a Udayan Ghar Program based on the belief that a loving home and family is the right of every child, Udayan Ghars are long term residential homes that nurture children who are orphaned, abandoned or at-risk, in a simulated family environment through a strategy called L.I.F.E – Living In Family Environment. There are single and multi-unit Udayan Ghars, wherein 12 children (6-18 years) constitute a unit to give individual attention to each child. This ‘Group care’ model ensures children are loved and cared by a group of Mentor Parents – long term volunteers, who work in a group and have functions of parents with the help of a team of social workers, care givers and mental health professionals. Udayan Ghars are located in middle class neighborhoods to help children reintegrate with mainstream society. Children receive quality education in some of the best schools. Once they reach the age of 18 years, they move into our Aftercare Programme and continue with higher education or vocational training to get into jobs. Since inception in 1996, Udayan Ghars have nurtured more than 791 children. Presently, 178 children (125 girls & 53 boys) live at our 13 Udayan Ghars in 4 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan; and, 27 young adults live at our 13 Udayan Ghars, 2 Aftercare facilities and other scattered site housing across Delhi & NCR, Kurukshetra and Jaipur. With a vision to reach out to more children, and with an immediate plan to start a new facility in Faridabad, we hope to open even more homes in the future.

The Volunteer needs to go to one such home and support children who are slow learners, who need extra support in academics (subjects like : English, Maths, Science or even help in completing the homework they get from School) We are looking for someone who can patiently support them.

Opportunity To Work with Orphan and Homeless Children

Description:
Student’s Relief Society (SRS) started forming Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) with the support of Eastern Rajasthan Package Programme in block Sanganer, Dist. Jaipur, from year1998 to 2002.

SRS has done hard efforts to expose the deprived Women of the area. These women were bounded in their own culture, costumes and superstitions. We created SHGs and trained them on agriculture, Health and livestock subjects too. These subject specialised trainees are being called “Krishi, Swasthaya and Pashu Sakhi” and started new and innovating practices in their domain. We trained them to grow crops with less water requirement, was an innovative work.

Considering the field situation, SRS decided to convert project into programme with consent of board members. This change was necessary to sustain the mind-set and behaviour of community and step was taken with participation approach. Village women started earning and taking lead in family. The aware Village women not just only raised themselves, but also their families. This eye opening change and a long term innovative programme of SRS upgraded Community’s mind-set. At present the programme is not funded by any agency, SHG’s Women have sustained themselves and are managing the groups on their own and forming new Self Help Groups.
